They Opt In!

It is understood that when something new comes along many people have a misunderstanding about whatever it is, especially when technology is involved.

This certainly applies to text message marketing. I have already heard it mentioned more than once from business owners that they would not be interested in text message marketing because they do not want to do that to their customers?

E-mail has been so abused that everyone is really tired of spam and the 1st thing these business owners do is associate text message marketing with spam. But once it is explained, then it makes sense!

The customers that would be receiving the text messages are providing permission; they opt in by texting a keyword to a short code. Once they do this they are opted into your database so you can send them your promotions. If they no longer want to receive your messages they opt out, simple as that.

So what these business owners are mistakenly saying is that they do not want their customers to have the opportunity to raise their hands and say I love your product or service and I want to receive exclusive offers from you when they are available.

So undo the mindset of spam and realize that text message marketing is a voluntary, opt in permission based form of communication and your customers want you to send them exclusive offers. You will be building a very valuable database of customers that want what you have!
